Recent Events:
Street Tree Care Day - East Harlem
Street Tree Care Day, It's My Park Day! - Bronx

On Street Tree Care Day, volunteers came together to care for needy street trees. At the same time, participants got to connect and exchange ideas with each other. Here's what people said they enjoyed the most:

  • "Camaraderie, being outside, seeing the results of our work, raising awareness ... Great morning -- thank you for organizing it!"

  • "Great networking."

  • "Talking and learning and knowing what I can do can make a difference because others have told me how it has for them."

Flowers
This well-maintained tree pit has a good plant selection. However the soil level is a little bit too high.
Garbage
This unfortunate tree pit could use some good care.

You can do a lot to go above and beyond basic maintenance to help street trees. Tree stewards have put up signage; designed tree guards; and some are interested in government initiatives. If you are inspired to do more, we can help. Contact channaly.oum@parks.nyc.gov or (212)‑676‑1929.

An example of inspiration and hard work starting to come to fruition are the tree guards Lorraine Forte has designed and produced. She partnered with the 4th Street Block Association, among a handful of other partners in different sites, to test out her prototypes of a cheaper tree guard.
