Astoria/LIC Waterfront Parks

The Astoria and Long Island City Waterfront Parks Catalyst Project has enlivened seven waterfront parks along the East River in western Queens. Catalyst developed relationships with the vibrant and diverse community members of Astoria/LIC, fostered the development of the groups, and supported the revitalization of the area’s parks. Some of our accomplishments include:

Some of our achievements include:

  • Rainey Playground, completed in June 2008
    This $1.4 million playground reconstruction project presents children with a climbing mound, a new spray shower, and reconfigured layout.
  • Queensbridge Park Synthetic Turf Field completed in August 2006.
    This project included a synthetic turf multi-purpose field and volleyball courts as well as improvements to the picnic area.
  • Queens East River North Shore Greenway
    Currently in design, this project will create a new section of in the City’s greenway system, providing a valuable link between a number of parks on the Queens waterfront.
  • Organized and connected community groups to develop and implement a shared vision for the waterfront parks. Visit the Green Shores website to learn more about the coalition and its goals
  • Developed programs and publications that promoted community activity in the parks, as well as brought programming from City Parks Foundation that enriched park life.
  • Supported the city’s greenway plan for the Queens East River , which proposes to link the waterfront parks along the East River and to create continuous community access to the River.
