More Information About It’ s My Park Day

On It’s My Park Day, thousands of New Yorkers care for and celebrate New York City parks by clearing, planting, enjoying free events of just getting outside to enjoy their park!

Thanks to all of the participants who helped us celebrate Partnerships for Parks’ 15th Anniversary, highlighting the dedication and accomplishments of community groups that our program has supported over the years. Scroll below for photos and highlights from It’s My Park Day on May 15, 2010! This fall’s It’s My Park Day will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010. Hear from IT’S MY PARK DAY Volunteer Leaders in the community…

Arlene Shaner – WEST 181st STREET COMMUNITY GARDEN - Manhattan

“We had more than twenty volunteers turn out … for the West 181st Street Beautification Project's It's My Park Day event at the Pinehurst Steps. Lots of our volunteers were families with children, especially a big group from Ft. Tryon Jewish Center [and we also had] our regular volunteer crew that comes out every week … We cleaned up our garden space, planted many wonderful flowers from the Parks Department (impatiens, salvia, ageratum and hostas) and also planted flowers that our group purchased… At our information table we hosted a pot-a-plant event [encouraging children to replant begonias] in yogurt containers so that they could take them home. Thanks very much for all the support we get from the Parks Department. We had a wonderful event because of you and I especially appreciate the extra effort that Parks staff made to make sure we got our plants and supplies. Thanks also for the great travel mugs; they were very much appreciated by our volunteers.”

Frances Schmidt – JOE SABBA PARK – Queens

“We had another successful park day. The weather was great and the turnout was good. Joe Block and Jack Maurin are wonderful people to work with. Thank you so much!”
