Partnerships for Parks provides direct outreach and assistance to community groups in all five boroughs. We have seen how a strong group of community members devoted to park revitalization can rally greater involvement, sustained commitment, and also leverage financial support from corporations, individuals, and government. We also work to bring together these diverse community groups to create a growing, citywide network of advocates for vibrant public spaces.
These are just a few of the many ways that Partnerships strengthens community groups throughout the City:
Increase membership We connect new volunteers to existing community groups, while also offering resources and tailored support to help groups grow their membership.
Promotion - We help to increase the visibility of groups within their communities and throughout New York City by identifying opportunities to promote their projects and events, using resources within Partnerships, the Parks Department, and other City agencies, as well as our community partners.
Networking- We encourage our growing, diverse pool of active community groups, institutions, and agencies to share best practices and spark new partnerships by creating formal and informal networking opportunities throughout the year. We also work closely with interested community groups to build and support regional and neighborhood coalitions, such as Green Shores NYC.
Capacity Building We guide interested community groups to develop their mission and to create an action plan for achieving their goals. Based on a groups unique needs and interests, our staff offer one-on-one support for projects ranging from event planning to working with elected officials. Partnerships also provides qualified groups with a long-term, skill-building curriculum through our Academy programs.
The first step for community groups to access these and many more resources is to contact our neighborhood Outreach and Catalyst staff.
